Internal Decorating in Macclesfield
Internal decorating in Macclesfield
Macclesfield has a distinctive housing stock thanks to the silk industry. Dense Victorian terraces run through the older parts of town, including former weavers’ houses with unusually large upper windows built to let light onto the looms, alongside 1930s semis and a lot of newer estate housing.
Those Victorian terraces are the jobs we see most. Original plaster that has been papered over repeatedly, chimney breasts that have been boarded in or opened back up, and woodwork carrying a century of paint. Getting a good finish is mostly about the unglamorous work: stripping properly, filling and sanding, caulking the gaps where old joinery has shrunk away from the plaster, and sealing anything bare before a topcoat.
Where a room has had a lot of movement over the years, lining the walls before painting gives a much better result than trying to fill every crack. It costs a bit more up front and it is the difference between a wall that looks flat and one that shows every repair when the light comes across it.
Those large weavers’ windows are worth making the most of — the light in those rooms will carry a deeper colour that would feel oppressive elsewhere.
