Internal Decorating in Alderley Edge
Internal decorating in Alderley Edge
Alderley Edge has some of the most demanding interiors we decorate, in the sense that the finish has to be right and the details are unforgiving. Large Victorian and Edwardian villas built for Manchester merchants, high ceilings, ornate cornice and ceiling roses, panelled doors and wide staircases.
Period plaster is rarely flat. Filling and sanding a hundred-and-thirty-year-old wall so it reads as smooth under a modern matt emulsion takes longer than most people expect, and cutting a clean line where a moulded cornice meets the wall cannot be rushed or masked round. Where cornice has been painted over so many times that the detail has filled in, we can carefully take it back so the profile shows again.
We work regularly with heritage colour ranges here — Farrow & Ball and Little Greene in particular — which behave differently to standard trade emulsions and need the right primer and the right number of coats to sit properly. Deep, saturated colours especially will look patchy if they are put on over the wrong base.
Much of our work in Alderley Edge is for people who are staying put and want it done properly, so we phase jobs room by room and keep the house liveable throughout.
